Political discourse in movement: analysis of fragmentations, junctions and their mediations in Câmara Municipal de São Paulo

Author: Jamir Kinoshita

This monograph sets out to analyse the way in which the relationship between a press and communications advisor and a journalist, who operates in the political arena, takes place. For this we have carried out a research, based on a case study, using the Câmara Municipal de São Paulo (CMSP) as the scenario and, more precisely, the professionals who carry out their activities in the present legislature (2001-2004). The analysis that we proposed came out of the daily observation of the practice established by the communications and press advisors as someone involved in intermediary action. It was the search for a methodological explanation for what grounded their way of being and working that allowed us to launch out on this task. The deepening of the advisors role and the recovery of the journalist’s social function, together with a long discussion about the aspects that involve the output of these two professionals, gave us the background for a more difficult and, at times arduous, search: the mediation between the fields of communication and politics, so as to ensure a more democratic process that brings the topics of the CMSP to peoples’ daily lives, in this way recuperating, in each one of us, our rights as citizens.
